Walks: 50 Walks in North Queensland
Written by Tyrone T. Thomas, who has
written extensively about bushwalks in Australia, this 140 page book is
designed very specifically for people actually intending to do the
walks throughout North Queensland. The walks are start at the
Whitsundays and continue north to the Daintree Rainforest and west to
Chillagoe and Hughenden. It is not a coffee table book for people who
dream about doing interesting bushwalks. The book opens with the usual
sensible advice - safety, common sense, first aid, equipment, mapping,
food, navigation etc - and then it is straight into the 50 walks. There
is a useful map (more detailed map references are provided), a
comprehensive description of what you will see on the walk and then the
basic information: time it takes to complete the walk, degree of
difficulty, distance (to the nearest 100 metres) and other pertinent
information. Walks range from pleasant 1 hour wanders to difficult 4
day walk on Hinchinbrook Island. This is a book for every bushwalker
whether serious or social. The instructions are clear and, as far as we
can determine, the information is accurate and sensible.
