    Wooli (including Minnie Water)
Peaceful holiday resort on the coast near Grafton
Located 685 km north of Sydney, Wooli is essentially a beach resort town on the coast near the mouth of the Wooli River. It is reached by taking the turnoff from the Pacific Highway 12 km south of Grafton and travelling east to Lake Hiawatha. At Lake Hiawatha the road divides with the northern road heading towards Minnie Waters and the southern branch heading towards Wooli.

Wooli is located on a narrow peninsula with the Wooli River to the west and the Solitary Island Marine Reserve on the east. It is surrounded by the extensive Yuraygir National Park which stretches from Yamba in the north to Red Rock in the south. The waters here are remarkably clear as their is no industry and the development has been low key.

The area is noted for its excellent seafood particularly the locally grown Sydney oysters. This is an ideal location for fishing and surfing. Deep sea diving and fishing charter boats operate out of Wooli harbour.

    Solitary Island Nature Reserve
This reserve is noted as an important habitat for the crested tern, the wedgetailed shearwater and the sooty oyster catcher. The reserve is also home to soft corals and consequently is a popular diving destination. There are brochures with details of sites available.

To the right is a turnoff onto Diggers Camp Rd (unsealed) which leads, after 4 km, to Wilsons Headland Picnic Area and, a little further on, to Boorkoom Rest Area. The 3-km Wilson Headland Walk links these two sites. Information is available from National Parks and Wildlife, tel: (02) 6640 3910.

Signs lead from the village to Illaroo Camping Area, 1 km to the north. This is a popular and shady picnic and overnight campsite along Sandon Beach which is sheltered from the wind by Rocky Point to the south.

The Angophora Grove Walk (1 km return) begins just south of the rest area and offers a chance to glimpse a sugar glider, wallaby, possum, bush rat or bearded dragon.

The Rocky Point Walk (2 km return) begins from the same point. It crosses a small sand ridge then returns along the foreshore. The point is a sandy headland with rock platforms (great for exploring) and excellent views along the coastline.
